Collette Cosby, The Club at Travisso’s new Lifestyle Director, hails from Nashville and considers herself a “Southern Belle.” She is a self-proclaimed foodie that enjoys discovering restaurants and trying new foods. Cosby revels in the music scene and “weirdness” of Austin, and engages in what she describes as the three R’s—running, reading, and retail therapy. She also prefers dogs over cats, loves to watch the Hobbit trilogy movies, paddleboards, hikes Austin’s Walnut Creek, and enjoys the great salsa dancing scene at Gloria’s in The Domain.
She started her new position as the club’s director on October 21 and comes on board with a host of new ideas for special events, fitness programming experience and an adventurous spirit. As the community’s first lifestyle director she is looking most forward to working with and meeting the residents of Travisso.
While working in both the health industry and for nonprofit organizations, Cosby has collected an arsenal of knowledge about how to build and retain community engagement, event planning, health and wellness maintenance, personal fitness, and group training.
Most her work experience has focused on developing, managing, and implementing fitness classes, instructional programs and providing nutrition and wellness resources while employed with the YMCA in Austin, Houston and Nashville. Cosby has held several positions for the organization including Association Director of Personal Fitness for the YMCA of Greater Houston, Health and Wellness Director for the YMCA of Austin, and as a Personal Trainer and Wellness Coordinator for the YMCA of Middle Tennessee. Over the span of her career for the YMCA Cosby developed and operated a portfolio of adult and youth fee-based small group fitness programs; hired, developed and coached group fitness instructors, personal trainers, dietitians, and wellness coaches; managed budgets; collaborated with community partners to provide educational opportunities, and partnered with Kids Triathlon and the American Diabetes Association organizations to recruit volunteers, organize meetings, and coordinate training for major events.
Cosby has earned several certifications that have qualified her to teach a variety of specialty programs such as Body Combat and Body Pump, MPower Cycle, Matter of Balance and Powerful Tools for Caregivers. She has also received accreditation as a Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is a certified Group Fitness instructor. As a wellness professional dedicated to women’s health, Cosby is a “Becoming a Mom” instructor and Breast Cancer Exercise Specialist.
Cosby graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from The University of The South in Sewanee, Tennessee and earned a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science from Middle Tennessee State University in Nashville.
