What to Know Before Leander ISD Starts School 2022

Back-to-school season is among us! Grab your backpacks and sharpen your pencils to begin the year strong. Looking for an after-school activity or more ways to get involved within Leander ISD? Here is all you need to know about the upcoming 2022-23 school year at Leander ISD.

When does Leander ISD start school?

The first day of classes at Leander ISD schools is August 17, 2022. Check out the entire Leander ISD calendar for the upcoming school year, and mark all the important dates and breaks for your students.


Important Back-to-School Changes!

Revised Bell Schedule for 2022–23 School Year

  • Elementary School: 7:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
  • High School: 8:15 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. 
  • Middle School: 9:05 a.m. to 4:20 p.m.

What schools are in Leander ISD? 

Leander Independent School District is one of the best in Texas. There are 47 schools in the district throughout 200 square miles in Leander, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Jonestown, and Round Rock in Williamson County, and northwest Austin in Travis County.

Elementary Schools Near Travisso

There are many elementary schools surrounding Travisso like Akin Elementary School, Bagdad Elementary School, and more, but Travisso is currently zoned for CC Mason Elementary School. CC Mason Elementary was established in 1994 as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, and continues to offer this programme to all of their students. The IB Primary Years Programme prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners and teaches students to participate in the world around them. CC Mason is a fantastic school that has continuously ranked highly in overall best public elementary schools in Texas and high proficiency in reading and math subjects. 

Middle and High Schools

For Middle and High school, Travisso is zoned for Running Brushy Middle School and Leander High School. Running Brushy has also been ranked highly for best public middle schools in Texas, as well as offering students Advanced Placement (AP) courses in ELA, PACE Math, and pre AP in Social Studies. In 2021, Leander ISD High Schools had an overall 98.6% graduation rate on time or earlier. Leander High School is advancing education through creativity, innovation, and collaboration. These are only two of the fantastic schools located in the Leander ISD school district and Travisso is so lucky to be a part of it!

How to get involved with Leander ISD?

Parents can become more involved with their children’s school by joining the Leander ISD Council of PTAs. PTA comprises teachers and parents who want the best for their school district and advocate for the children. Volunteering is another way for parents and community members to be involved with Leander ISD schools.

Extracurricular Activities for Kids in Leander

For after-school activities and extracurriculars, there are many opportunities around Leander. From gymnastics and tumbling classes to TaeKwonDo or just joining an athletic team at your school, your children are guaranteed to find the perfect fit for them! 

Leander ISD after-school programs

  • Destination ImagiNation – An extracurricular, school-sponsored program that fosters creativity, team-based problem-solving skills, and life skills for students in grades 3-12. Enrollment typically ends in October. See if your students are interested today!
  • After-School Enrichment – Several unique course opportunities encourage students to experience classes from teachers and staff across our district from prekindergarten-5th grade. Explore the courses available this school year!
  • The YMCA of Greater Williamson County – Activities include physical activities, social-emotional learning (self-management, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making), creativity, critical thinking, and voice and choice to create an environment for children to have positive social experiences.

Additionally, here are some additional opportunities if your child is planning on enrolling in CTE courses or wants to join a student organization.

Students enrolled in CTE courses are also encouraged to join and participate in their respective Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSO). These organizations provide students the opportunity to apply their CTE curriculum in competitive events as well as develop their leadership skills for the future.
