City of Leander Facts You Need to Know

Whether you are already moving to Leander or are just thinking about it, there’s a lot you need to know. From raising a family, to the city’s school district, to health care and unemployment, we sorted through lists and articles to guide you through so that you don’t have to. Here’s five facts about Leander that everyone should know.

When it comes to raising a family Leander is #1

You are moving to the #1 place to raise a family in Texas. According to SmartAsset.com when it comes to raising a family in Texas, there’s no better place than Leander. When compared to other cities in the state with a population over 25,000 Leander came up on top. To calculate the rankings SmartAsset uses several criteria important to families including graduation and unemployment rates. They also use other factors such as percentages of population ages 19 or younger and both crime and poverty rates.

The school district is top-rated

Leander sits at the top of the list is because of the incredible education system of the Leander Independent School District. In 2017 LISD ranked #19 out of 937 Best School Districts in Texas. And, there’s no doubt about that.  Students in the district scored above the state average in all subjects on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STARR) testing program for grades 3-8 and End of Course Exams for grades 9-12. Additionally, the district ranked #34 of 981 Largest School Districts in the state covering 200 square miles. The LISD serves six cities including Leander, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Jonestown, Round Rock in Williamson County and northwest Austin in Travis County. Other impressive LISD stats include the district’s 96 percent graduation rate and the 15:1 student to teacher ratio.

The 26th safest city in the state

It’s no surprise to current residents that their city ranked as the 26th safest city in the state. A major reason is because of the city’s progressive Police Department. Leander’s PD offers a multitude of support, investigative, and community services providing its residents with both sound policing and good will. The rankings appeared on the fourth annual Safest Cities in Texas report. Home security company SafeWise analyzed crime reports from the FBI to compile the rankings. The number of reported violent and property crimes, in addition to the ratio of crimes occurring per 1,000 residents were used to calculate the rankings.

Quality health and specialty healthcare is minutes away

You’ll never had to worry about your family’s health because you’re just minutes away from quality and specialty healthcare. The city of Austin and suburban areas surrounding it have one of the highest doctor-to-patient ratios in the state. Currently Cedar Park Regional Medical Center serves the cities of Leander and Cedar Park. However, in May, St. David’s HealthCare broke ground for a freestanding emergency center with plans for a future hospital. The new facility will be located on 52 acres of property between US 183 and Toll 183A. Check out the Community Impact June/July Edition for their comprehensive guide the area’s health care.

A city with a bright future

With a 2.8% unemployment rate and a 3.04% job growth rate the city’s population is expected to continue at a quick pace. Just recently the city’s population exceeded 50,000 and has since been named the fourth fastest growing city Texas. And, it appears that things won’t change anytime soon. The city’s future job growth rate for the next 10 years is predicted to be 43.29%. Now, that’s a future prediction that benefits both Leander and the state of Texas.
