It’s finally spooky season! Leander and Travisso are filled with Halloween events and stories to tell your families and friends. Read about the Haunted Hill Country and check out the upcoming Halloween events below!
Haunted History in the Texas Hill Country
Texas Chainsaw House
Ever heard of the movie the Texas Chainsaw Massacre? This Tobe Hooper horror movie was actually filmed here in Central Texas! Located in Kingsland, Texas on the grounds of The Antlers Hotel, this house turned movie set still stands!
It’s estimated the house was originally built between 1908 and 1910. While not truly a haunted place in the Texas Hill Country, the house is a must-see for horror film fans!
Driskill Hotel
According to Yelp, this is the spookiest place you can visit in all of Texas! The Driskill Hotel has been used for many years, hosting high society and historical political events. In 1934, President Lyndon Baines Johnson met his wife, Lady Bird at the Driskell.
It is said that the elevators in Driskell have a mind of their own and take you to your correct floor without pressing any buttons. A haunting death occurred in room 525 as well, causing that room to potentially have ghosts. Overall, the Driskill Hotel is a crazy part of Austin’s history and is filled with stories to tell. If only the walls could talk!
The Faust Hotel in New Braunfels
Another location filled with ghost stories is the Faust Hotel in New Braunfels. It is common for guests to hear voices in the hall, but none of the ghostly gossip has become violent. Staff claims that most activity happens on the second floor near rooms 215 and 217. Children can be heard running around the halls playing and giggling in the middle of the night.
The Hauntings of Enchanted Rock
Eerie noises can be heard from the top of the Enchanted Rock, some say it sounds like moans and groans. It’s said that these noises are caused by the cooling off and moving of the rocks, but history has a different, haunted reason. Native Americans were the first to hear these noises and tell stories about what the noises on the rock may be. The stories include a sacrifice, a woman who was captured, and tales of the escape of a Texas Ranger. Visit the rock not only for the rumored stories but also for its beautiful Central Texas landscape.
Overall, Central Texas has some awesome haunting stories and interesting facts to learn about during the Halloween season. We also have a spooktacular trunk-or-treat event for the entire family to enjoy!
