It’s fall in Austin. Though the temperatures here in Austin may be telling us something different, the calendar says it is so. If you are new to the Austin area and not acclimated to the heat, you are probably ready for cooler weather. I don’t know anyone that doesn’t look forward to fall. For me fall is hues of golden yellow, orange, and brown leaves; football, apple picking, pumpkin carving, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Around the end of August, I yearn for slightly cooler breezes and the opportunity to change my home décor.
The Austin metropolitan area comes alive in the fall because frankly, the weather is cooler. If you have been in the area for a while you are probably very familiar with Austin’s City Limits Festival and Formula One. Both of these grand events take place in the month of October. But, if you haven’t snagged a ticket, there’s no need to fret. You can fill the voids in your weekend with a multitude of both indoor and outdoor activities. From the city limits of Austin to the Texas Hill Country and beyond there’s hundreds of festivals, outdoor activities, concerts, farmer’s markets, flea markets, and much more to help you consume you time.
Fall is a perfect time to decorate our homes, discover new places, attend new festivals, and shop at new venues. In other words—Fall is Fun! Below are a few things to discover this fall. I have just one word of advice—ENJOY!
A celebration of fall events
Make Tavisso’s Tuscany Home Tour number one on your list. Join us on Saturday, Sept. 23 from noon to 3 p.m. or on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 1-4 p.m. at our Information Center. During the two weekend event tour our eight beautiful model homes and view over 30 move in ready inventory homes! Attend a free concert. Join the Parks and Recreation Department of Cedar Park for a free concert at Millburn Park on Friday, Oct. 6 from 7-10 p.m. Cover band Uptown Drive will provide live entertainment playing Motown favorites and musical hits from the 80s, 90s, 2000s and today’s top 40.
Hoist a beer at Oktoberfest. Here, in Austin, we like to celebrate just about anything with music, and, of course, beer. More specifically artisan craft beer. Tapping into Austin’s Oktoberfest scene this year are local favorites such as Whitestone Brewery in Cedar Park and Bluebonnet Beer Company in Round Rock. There’s only two more weekends to take advantage of Whitestone’s special calendar of Oktoberfest events. But, you can mark your calendar and attend Bluebonnet Beer Company in Round Rock. Join this lively group of craft brewers on Sunday, October 8 from 11:30 to 6 p.m. The day’s festivities include polka music, contests, prizes, food, and both German and American beers. Shopping for fall treasures
Fall is a great time to change up your front door décor. Wreaths, pumpkins, hay bales, and more are just a few of the many items available at nearby farmer’s and flea markets. The year-round Texas Farmer’s Market in Cedar Park is a mecca of home-grown vegetables, foods, crafts, and inspiration. The market takes place every Saturday at the Lakeline Mall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In fall there’s an abundance of vendors selling pumpkins, corn stalks, and Indian corn. This one-of-a-kind market supports local farmer’s 100 percent—all vendors are from the state of Texas.
Shop to you drop at Vintage Market Days of Greater Austin, Friday, Oct. 27 through Sunday, Oct. 29 at Cedar Park’s Lakeline Mall. This three-day event features vintage and vintage-inspired furniture and décor, architectural salvage, repurposed finds, clothing, and jewelry. Shoppers that want to get a head start can attend on Friday during the early buying event. Hours are Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets for three days are $10; for two days the admission fee is $5.
