5 Advantages of Purchasing an Inventory Home

Looking for a new home?  Are you ready to move in now? Do you want to forgo the building process? If you answered “yes” to all three of those questions, you may be looking at purchasing an inventory home or sometimes called a “spec” home. If you are unfamiliar with the term it is a new home that is either currently under construction or completely finished by the builder. The term means speculative home for sale. A builder typically builds a home on property that he owns without a predetermined homebuyer. In many cases the homebuyer does not choose color schemes or fixtures in the home. An inventory home is a stress-free way to get the home of your dreams quickly.

Why you should purchase an inventory home

An inventory home is move in ready. The biggest advantage of purchasing an inventory home is that it’s move-in ready. But, in some cases the builder may have started the construction of the home and sets a future completion date. However, the wait is usually not long.

The home is brand new. The big advantage here is the “new house” smell and that you are the first to live in the house.

You can view home the home as is. It is much easier to walk through a brand new home if it is already finished than viewing it on a blueprint. Since the home is already completed, you also have the opportunity to inspect or check out every nook and cranny. You will also know if it is the right fit. Fitting in your furniture and accessories are far much easier to envision when you already know what your home looks like. You will also be able to check the quality and craftsmanship of the home.

There is no building process. If time is of the essence, then purchasing an inventory home is the way to go. Typically, if you were to build the home of your dreams from the bottom up, it could take anywhere from 8-10 months. In some cases the process can be longer.  If you know you don’t have that kind of time, it may be best to view only inventory homes.

No guesswork involved. Since the home is already complete, the stress of choosing the color scheme, paint, countertops, and fixtures is non-existent. Trained designers have already done the work for you. However, in some cases, depending on where the builder is in the process, the homebuyer may be able to personalize their space by choosing those items. The question here is, do you want to? A benefit of buying an inventory home is not having to go through the Design Center process.
