On Father’s Day Treat Dad to Burgers, Brews and BBQ

With the month of June in full bloom Father’s Day is just around the corner. This year the annual holiday devoted to celebrating fatherhood falls on June 16. It’s a day to spend quality time with dad and express appreciation for all the things he does. You can show dad some Texas-sized love this Father’s Day by giving him a very special day with all his favorite foods and beverages. To help you out we searched local area restaurants for juicy burgers, melt-in-your-mouth barbecue, and refreshing craft beers. Whether your dad loves one or all three there’s plenty of choices for some great grub and brews.

Burgers

There’s something about a juicy burger and a tall glass of cold beer. Treat dad to both at Hopdoddy Burger Bar. This popular burger chain originating in the southwest has four Austin area locations spread out through the city. Finding one is easy. Gourmet burgers, shakes, hand cut fries, and kiddie meals. Bison, turkey, chicken, and vegan burgers too. For an old-fashioned dining option take dad to Hut’s. The fun, relaxed atmosphere is perfect for kids. Known for their burgers and malts this Austin original has been serving up southern favorites for more than 80 years. Though the location has changed over the years, the food hasn’t. Twenty burger options, chili, shakes, and daily Blue Plate specials. For a trendier feel go to Second Bar + Kitchen. In 2018 their burger came in at number 92 on the Daily Meal’s 101 Best Burgers in America list.

Brews

If you haven’t heard, Austin houses the most craft breweries in the state of Texas. So, it goes without saying that there’s no shortage of beer here. The only problem you’ll have is being able to try them all. For fresh roasted coffees and house-made craft beers we’re sure dad will enjoy locally-owned Red Horn Coffee House & Brewing Company. A laid-back atmosphere, live music, and friendly service. At Pinthouse Pizza’s three Austin area locations, over 40 craft beers are paired up with some delicious pizza varieties. This award-winning brew pub serves its own creations, seasonal varieties, in addition to a barrel-aged series. Or, for a unique daytrip take dad to test-taste one of the state’s oldest beers at Spoetzel Brewery in Shiner. This independent century-old brewery gives tours six days week. On Saturdays you can visit from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are closed on Sundays.

BBQ

It’s not unusual to wait in line at some of Austin’s top barbecue joints. And Father’s Day will be no exception. If you want delicious barbecue sans waiting in line you can pre-order and bring it home from Franklin’s Barbecue. This highly-ranked BBQ joint is as famous for its brisket as it is for its long lines. You’ll have to get there early. They sell out by 2 p.m.  Valentina’s Tex-Mex Barbecue food truck’s south Austin location is one-of-a-kind. Both first-timers and loyal fans praise this family-run business for their tasty brisket tacos and perfectly smoked meats. If you can’t decide where to take dad then pack up the kids and head for the Central Texas Barbecue Trail. There’s plenty of options along the trail where you’ll discover great communities and barbecue awesomeness with all the trimmings. But, save room for southern dessert favorites like banana pudding and peach cobbler.
