Leander ISD’s bright future
The future of Leander Independent School District looks very bright. From its progressive learning models to advanced academic programs, low student to teacher ratios, and above state average test scores, LISD students achieve and excel. The district, located in both Travis and Williamson counties serves the master-planned community of Travisso. Families residing in Travisso attend CC Mason Elementary, Running Brushy Middle School, and Leander High School.
By the numbers, Leander ISD is the 14th fastest growing district in the state of Texas. It serves over 38,000 students at 41 campuses encompassing over 200 square miles. Specifically, LISD is the 34th largest in the state out of 981 districts and it is predicted to continue to grow. To keep up with growth the district is predicting it will need six elementary schools, two middle schools, and one more high school in the next eight years. The district has identified the Travisso community as a site for a future elementary school.
LISD is also ranked #19 out of 937 Best School Districts in Texas. Wow! Now, that is impressive especially when you consider that LISD is making the grade when it comes to excellence. According to statistics released by Niche, when it comes to grades LISD gets an A+. Niche provides rankings, report cards, and reviews of colleges and K-12 schools to aid families in their decision process. The company also ranks neighborhoods under their “Places to Live” category. Niche assigns grades in 10 categories. Where LISD shines is in both college readiness and academics. In these two categories LISD received an A+. And, that is because the district is committed to challenging and offering its student advanced academic programs from the elementary to middle to high school levels.
Leander ISD student test scores shine
Leander ISD students in grades 3-8 outpaces the rest of the state on assessment scores released by the Texas Education Agency. At the high school level students scored above the state level in End of Course exams for Algebra 1, Biology, English 1 and 2, and U.S. History. Additional factors setting LISD apart from other Texas schools include:
- All Leander ISD campuses received a Met Standard rating for State Accountability 2016
- The district has a 96 percent graduation rate
- 15:1 student to teacher ratio
- Thirty-three percent of Leander ISD students take at least one AP exam
- Seventy-three percent of students that take an AP exam score a 3 or higher
LISD offers quality programs fostering student excellence
Leander ISD provides quality educational programs for its students to excel. One such initiative is the 365/24/7 program. The district-wide program allows students to have access to their electronic devices all year long. Also unique to the district is the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme. This highly acclaimed educational program develops the intellectual, personal, emotional, and social skills necessary for students to live, learn, and work in a globalizing world. Schools in the district that offer the IB programme are CC Mason and Grandview Hills Elementary Schools and Leander High School.
