Happy Valentine’s Day! The month for love is upon us. Unfortunately, for some of us, that causes a lot of stress for finding just the right way to express our love. But, there’s no need to worry. Valentine’s Day fun run for everyone
February is also American Heart Month. And, there’s always a reason to celebrate when your heart is in working order. You can get your heart pumping during the annual Cupid’s Chase 5K. This annual event sponsored by Community Options Inc. takes place Saturday, Feb. 10 at Brushy Creek Lake Park. Join this family-friendly annual fundraiser and know that you are making a difference in the lives of people with disabilities. Community Options Inc. invites all to run, walk or stroll the three-mile course. According to their website, as a national organization, Community Options’ mission is to develop housing and employment supports for persons with disabilities. They currently have hubs in 11 states. Family-friendly Valentine’s Day adventures
All aboard! Take the Austin Steam Train on a scenic excursion through the Hill Country. In celebration of Valentine’s Day the folks at the Austin Steam Train Association has planned a special excursion just for families. The whistle blows at the station on Saturday, Feb. 10 to board the Valentine’s Day Flyer. On your six-hour round-trip journey the historic diesel locomotive travels across the South San Gabriel River and Short Creek Canyon for truly spectacular views. In Burnet a two-hour layover gives travelers time to shop, enjoy a hearty lunch, or experience the historic town square’s Wild West Gunfight (weather permitting). Go online and check out the history of the association. It works to preserve the era of steam trains for generations to come.
Or, take the family shopping. Need a little gift buying inspiration? The folks in Cedar Park have a great idea for those that need help in this department. The Valentine Market debuts this year for the very first time on Sunday, Feb. 11 from 2-6 p.m. at the SpringHill Suites in Cedar Park. This year’s market features over 30 vendors all under one roof. Melt your Valentine’s heart with unique one-of-a-kinds, products you already know and love, or homemade goodies. There’s gifts for everyone on your list. Come on out and support local businesses. And, with every special Valentine’s Day cocktail you purchase $1 will go towards supporting the Hope Alliance Crisis Center. Raffles, Valentine sweets and treats, a photo booth, and much more. Valentine’s Day Wining and Dining
Nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country is wine. With over 50 wineries and breathtaking views it’s easy to spend the day or the weekend wining, dining, or just strolling. From special wine tastings to deliciously prepared lunches and dinners, to cheese tastings and wine pairings there’s a multitude of special Valentines events to choose from. Or, if you just want to sample some wine, tastings and music are available at many of the wineries on weekends. But, if you are looking for a change of pace stop by the Texas Hill Country Home and Design Show. The two-day event, Feb. 10-11, offers an array of exhibitors including homebuilders, designers, gardening experts, and special guest Dr. Lori. As, the Discovery Channel’s star appraiser and antique guru, Dr. Lori is here to appraise your most prized possessions. Antique lovers won’t want to miss this one.
Or, if you prefer to stay very close to home Travisso’s HOA invites all residents to a special Valentine’s Wine and Chocolate Pairing on Friday, Feb. 16, 7 p.m. at The Palazzo. Learn to taste and select just the right vintage for your chocolates from HEB expert Frank. Space is limited. This event is for residents only.
