Northline, the city of Leander’s new downtown lifestyle center, moved another step in the right direction. On Feb. 20 the Leander City Council voted to award a contract to begin phase one of the mixed-used urban project. The retail destination similar to Austin’s The Domain will be built near the north end of the Capital Metro Line, thus the reason behind its name. The Austin Community College San Gabriel Campus and St. David’s Emergency Center are close by neighbors. The project is scheduled to break ground March 4. However, the long-term forecast predicts it will take 10-15 years to complete the entire project.
If you missed what the buzz is all about we can tell you it’s a major boost for Leander. Word has it that city leaders have been working on a plan to revitalize Leander’s downtown for years. With 115 acres of ground to cover, Northline will offer a multi-purpose destination. Posh office spaces, residential living options, shopping and dining experiences will beckon Leander residents and visitors alike. And be the place to be and be seen in Leander.
The current plan for this trendsetting project includes 700,000 sq. ft. of office space, 300,000 sq. ft. of retail space and 150,000 sq. ft. of hotel space. Additionally, Northline will house 2,000 apartments, 300 townhomes and a community-like atmosphere where walking to get where you want to go is the norm. To give you a better idea of what to expect from this expansive undertaking, we reviewed the contractor’s website and found some additional details.
Shop and Dine at Northline
Northline’s retail section will be a premier shopping, dining and entertainment destination located along Main Street. Who doesn’t like to shop in all the familiar places and discover some unique boutiques along the way? Expect an eclectic mix of both. That’s the fun of shopping, after all. It’s also super fun to stroll along with a pal and break for a great cup of coffee. Or, have an intimate after-work dinner with your significant other. Whatever your preference, there are plans in the works to offer a plethora of both casual and fine dining options for every palate. But there’s so much more to Northline. The project’s preliminary plan includes additional retail venues to fill the northeast corner of the development.
Northline’s Public Spaces and Community Places
As the new downtown, Northline will be the heart and soul of Leander. And with its Town Square as the center of activity there’ll be no shortage of awesome things to do. From public events to festivals, concerts and farmers’ markets entertainment opportunities abound. The development’s town square will include a large public park equipped with all the necessities such as a pavilion, entertainment stage and a promenade. And for those that want to fit in some exercise, Northline will boast a fitness lawn, additional parks, trails and plenty of playscapes for the kiddos.
Residential Living and Office Space
Looking for an urban vibe? Northline’s residential living options will offer a variety of multi-family units throughout the community in addition to single-family townhomes located in the development’s southwest corner. Whether you are single, a student, empty-nester, or have a growing family, Northline’s residential options will accommodate every lifestyle.
And if you just happen to work for a company that relocates its office space to Northline, you’re in luck. The development’s office space component of the project is easily accessible from both 183 and 183A. For those seeking work-life balance amenities such as covered parking, fitness centers, leisure areas, co-working spaces and floor-to-ceiling windows should fit the bill.
