Eat BBQ, fly a kite, watch a baseball game
Cedar Park Heritage Festival and Chamber of Commerce Cedar Fest BBQ Cook-off, April 6. There’s something fun for everyone in the family during the city of Cedar Park’s Heritage Festival. From 1 to 6 p.m. enjoy live music, pig races, carnival rides, food concessions, and a multitude of kid’s games and activities. Archery tag and hover ball, pony rides, a petting zoo, a washer tournament, and arts and crafts, too. But, don’t forget to save room and time for this year’s BBQ Cook-off. As an official state championship contest 70 teams will compete for the coveted Cedar Park title. The free event takes place in Elizabeth Millburn Park. Fees apply for some activities.
4th Annual Cedar Park Kite Festival, April 7. Soar your kite to new heights from 3-7 p.m. during this annual event in Elizabeth Millburn Park. There’s room for everyone, so don’t forget to bring your friends. Food and kite vendors, face painting, a photo booth, raffles, and much more. Family-friendly, free, and a great outdoor community event.
Round Rock Express Opening Day at Dell Diamond, April 9. Take the whole family out to the ball game. And, cheer for the home team during the season opener when the Round Rock Express battle the Nashville Sounds. Game time is 7:05 p.m. This year marks the team’s 20th anniversary. Attend a vintage car show, adopt a pet, eat Cajun food
18th Annual Lonestar Round Up, April 12-13. This one-of-a-kind Texas-sized outdoor car show features miles of vintage hot rods and custom cars displayed on the grounds of the Travis County Expo Center. Cars displayed in the show are driven to Austin by car enthusiasts from all over the country. Their convergence in Austin is a grand celebration of history, culture, and music the entire family will enjoy. Gates open April 12 at 10 a.m. Live music, a swap meet, vendors, BBQ, and cruise nights. The two-day general admission fee is $15 per person. Children under 12 are free and so is parking.
Leander Pet Fur Fest, April 13. Pet adoptions and related services from Austin-area nonprofit shelters, animal retail businesses, and regional partners are on tap during the four-hour event. Leander Police Department’s Animal Services hosts the event. Join them from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Kohl’s parking lot located on Highway 183. Free pet microchipping for Leander residents (nonresidents $5), registration services, vendor booths, kids area, treats, and giveaways. Also, the Leander Veterinary Clinic is providing low cost on-site pet vaccinations including rabies, Bordetella, and DHPP/FVRCP.
9th Annual Jonestown Cajun Festival, April 13. There’s nothing better than a festival that celebrates great Cajun food and music. The event kicks-off with a parade beginning at 11 a.m. at Jones Brother’s Park. Vendor booths, live alligator shows, crawfish races, and a crawfish eating contest. Performing on this year’s music stage includes Off the Grid, Clyde, and The Mighty Pelicans. Free admission and $5 parking.
Hunt for eggs, take a nature walk
Leander Parks and Recreation Department’s Spring Egg-Stravaganza, April 14. Kids will have a blast hunting for prizes and sweet surprises during this free event for kids ages 2-10. The festivities begin at 1:30 p.m. at Bentbrook Ranch Park in Leander. Kids hunt for eggs in three different age groups: ages 2-4, ages 4-6 and 7-10.
Balcones Canyonlands Songbird Festival, April 26-28. This unique festival provides an opportunity to learn about the habitat and nesting habits of the Golden-cheeked Warbler. Rare and endangered, the Texas native breeds in the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. Through a series of interpretive events you’ll get to know all about this migrant songbird that calls the refuge home during its nesting season. During the festival small group tours will be led by leading names in the industry. Registration is required for the free tours.

Travisso Fest, May 4.
